Founder’s Message

Photography is one of the truest and most challenging art forms available; I believe that photographers must continually expand their horizons and their skill sets. This is especially true in the digital age where technology continues to evolve at an exponential pace.

I established the North Durham Photographers’ Association (NDPA) in July 2008, to give photographers an opportunity to enhance their knowledge through interaction with expert users in all aspects of the field. When I first started the club, I thought it would be optimistic to expect a turnout of 30 people. To my utter amazement, over 80 attended the first meeting, and the membership has continued to grow ever since!

Part of the reason for its success, is that the NDPA offers a forum where members can learn from guest lecturers, participate in workshops, go out on photographic excursions, and network with like-minded people. It is an environment where people can learn, have fun, and share their passion for photography.

Whether your objective is to improve your skills for professional purposes or as a hobbyist, your love of photography will find a place to grow in the North Durham Photographers’ Association. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out with a “point and shoot”, or you are a professional photographer, I believe you will find that the NDPA has a wide variety of opportunities that appeal to all levels.

Come out and join us for a meeting sometime – bring your camera, your sense of humour and your love of learning. That’s all you will need to have a great time at the North Durham Photographers’ Association.
