Many draw inspiration from twentieth century giants like Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, American photogaphers who saw the continent’s vast spaces as opportunities for artistic expression. Yet the roots of their work go back even further to those who took on the decidedly unglamorous and backbreaking survey work of the American West. This was performed by unsung heroes like William Henry Jackson and Timothy H. O’Sulllivan, who were skilled in wilderness survival and able to endure the hardship required to map and photograph the new frontier.

Being a landscape photographer today no longer means trekking through unmapped terrain with pack mules hauling 50 pounds of camera gear and darkroom equipment. Yet there remain both technical and logistical hurdles in photographing the great outdoors. In this article, we’ll explore equipment options for the landscape specialist, discuss the logistics involved in planning a shooting trip and look at techniques that allow you to capture the essence of the scene unfolding in front of your camera.

It seems like we just started the 2010/2011 meetings but so many things have transpired this past year.

We had a great board working very hard to provide the members with state of the Art Technology among many other exciting new programs.

Great Sponsorship backing with major photographic company,s combined with some great guest speakers.

Malcolm Thornton did a great job managing our funds and keeping spending in check setting the club up for an exciting 2012 year.

The past year our club searched for new ways to provide learning opportunities for all members.

I want to thank Randy Loewen and the board members. The dedication and support of these members was excellent providing the members with great programs and superb web technology !

The NDPA website provides a great learning tool that was introduced by the previous board. The Web Masters spent many hours organizing and administrating, many new communications to benefit you the member.

The Club now has a new format that encourages members to upload photos for critiquing and allows all members to comment and interact with other members.

Change is a necessity for progression , innovation and part of evolution, we have many new exciting programs lined up for the members this year.

We have taken on some new members and gained some amazing talent. All members will bring a wide variety of talent in 2012 with the new program, outlining much photographic interest.

We most recently held our first Board meeting including the new members and the excitement great , highly energized and working to provide you with many great tools.

Very happy to announce that we have some new and previous Board Members representing the NDPA 2012 – Catherine Starr, Cindy Vaughn, Dave Robinet, Glenn McGeorge, Ken Kemp, Kent Taylor, Malcolm Thorton, Mary Lou Foote, Randy Loewen, Rocco Lombardi , Theresa Hunter and Jon Van Bilsen.

The new board will be assigned positions prior to our next meeting scheduled for Jan 10th. 2012. This will allow all members to communicate with the board of Directors.

Jonathan our founding member of the NDPA will continue his role , assisting the NDPA Board with day to day valuable input. Since Jon,s inception the club has grown with much enthusiasm.

2011 was a great year in implementing many new changes and 2012 is sure to be exciting as we move forward with additional insight.

To our Past President Randy , thank you for your many hours of dedication , extending your position as president in 2010 , greatly appreciated.

The club requires the dedication and support of all members and we encourage you to attend the meetings to fully appreciate the contribution set forth by the club and community at large.

As your newly appointed President i encourage your feedback and suggestions.

Chuck Newton – NDPA President.
